Galettes des Rois and January sales

The fêtes, as they call the holidays here, are over, but the French seem to want to relive December. For example, come January you start seeing galettes des rois in every bakery. Literally "kings' cake," or three kings' cake, to be accurate, it's a light, flaky, super sweet, puff pastry that has something to do with the Epiphany holiday. Here in France they hide a little ornament inside the pastry, and whoever gets it gets to wear the king's crown

It's yummy and expensive, but fortunately if you're Dianny you can make it at home.

Also, every store in Paris has started their famous "soldes," or sales. The stores will even open on Sundays, which does not happen the rest of the year. And people shop like crazy. It's like Christmas all over again. We'd heard about the January sales but didn't know it was contagious.
