Abu Dhabi II: Emirates Palace Hotel

Since we were in Abu Dhabi, we could not avoid visiting the Emirates Palace hotel, which is owned by the Abu Dhabi government. There's luxury everywhere, and especially impressive are the expansive marble floor in the main lobby area, the balconies, and the lavish dome above.

But the main reason to visit this hotel is the Abu Dhabi Cultural District exhibit, Abu Dhabi's vision and expansion plans as a cultural center, which includes the Contemporary Arts Museum (Guggenheim Abu Dhabi); the Classical Art Museum (Louvre Abu Dhabi); the Abu Dhabi Performing Arts Center, which will house five theatres—a music hall, concert hall, opera house, drama theatre, and a flexible theatre; the Maritime Museum; and the Sheikh Zayed National Museum.

A few Western universities, such as New York University and Paris-Sorbonne University, have opened education and research centers in Abu Dhabi (there are some in Dubai too).
