The Promenade Plantée

Another great sightseeing trip in Paris is the Promenade Plantée, a 4.7 km tree-lined elevated walkway in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. It's built on the old Vincennes railway line, which ceased operation in 1969. It was inaugurated in 1993 and was the only green space constructed on an elevated viaduct until the High Line, a similar park on an old railway-viaduct in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan that was inaugurated in 2009.

The walkway begins near the Place de la Bastille, just behind the Opera Bastille, and heads east toward to the Bois de Vincennes park.

We started at the Opera Bastille entrance and got off halfway, at the Jardin de Reuilly, a beautiful park with a large, semi-circular grassy area, a playground, and a kiosk where you can get sandwiches, ice cream, drinks, and of course crêpes. It's a really nice walk and we got to see an area in Paris you don't usually visit.
