Summer picnics

Paris is an outdoors city, and there are plenty of places to have a picnic when the weather is nice. The most obvious place is of course the Champ de Mars, next to the Eiffel Tower. The park is named after the Campus Martius (Mars Field) in Rome, a tribute to the Roman god of war. The area used to be a drilling and marching ground for the French military.

We were there when my sister Alina was here. As we walked down Avenue Kleber we discovered the beautiful Hotel Baltimore Paris.

We also went to Parc André Citroën, a public park located on the left bank of the Seine, way down in the 15th arrondissement. I remember this day well because a lovely pigeon pooped on my head as we exited the Metro station.

The park was built on the site of a former Citroën auto assembly plant and is named after the company's founder. It's main feature are the dancing fountains, where the kids loved playing, and a moored gas balloon that rises 150 meters and allows visitors to see above the Parisian skyline, which didn't seem to be in operation that day.
